What is a Doula?
A Doula is someone who supports their client(s) through a major transition, such as birth or death.
In this case, I am a woman who supports a mother [and her family] through the prenatal journey, childbirth, & immediately postpartum. I do this by being an advocate for my clients' overall wellbeing, ensuring informed consent is provided and their decisions are respected at all times, in all settings. I do believe that pregnancy & childbirth are exclusive and sacred to women & the female body.
I am most honored to serve women through this most sacred time of their lives. It is my promise to hold those in my care like I held my children when I carried them; With a nurturing and supportive love & tenderness.

Certified vs. Non-certified Doula:
Doulas are not medical professionals, & in the state of North Carolina, certification is not required to work as a Doula. With that being said, I do believe that if someone has little to no experience working with prenatal and postpartum women & their families that the aspiring practitioner certainly should take the certification course to become a Doula or other comparable training.
I have been a Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist for nearly 16 years, certified in prenatal & postpartum bodywork for over 13 years, & I also see infant and pediatric bodywork clients. Since 2012, I am a Registered Yoga Teacher and hold training in prenatal & postpartum Yoga. I am also a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, with additional lactation-related training & clinical experience. Many of these skills or similar are used by Doulas when working with their clients.
Because the licenses & certifications I currently hold overlap into the world of Doula trainings, I am not currently looking into becoming a Certified Doula at this time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time!
